Position overview
OCOM is hiring a non-tenured Biomedical Faculty member to support education across predoctoral didactic and clinical programs, as well as graduate medical education. This role contributes to teaching, scholarly work, and departmental service while helping deliver a clinically oriented biomedical science curriculum.
Primary duties
- Deliver instruction in preclinical didactic coursework and other material assigned by the department.
- Support the academic mission of the department through teaching, scholarly activity, and service.
- Collaborate with OCOM Clinical Coordinators as directed by the department chair.
- Teach assigned courses or serve as a course director when needed.
- Take part in lectures, workshops, or clinical learning activities that align with curricular needs.
- Contribute to course design and academic content, including structure, preparation, written materials, lectures, labs, quizzes, examinations, practicals, and evaluations.
- Mentor students as they prepare for exams, including licensing board exams, and provide coaching to students who have not yet matched.
- Communicate non-routine information with tact, persuasion, and professionalism, both orally and in writing.
- Teach medical students across all four years, as well as residents and physicians, when assigned.
Work expectations
Biomedical sciences faculty are expected to be on campus five days per week. Protected research time guidelines are 30% for biomedical sciences faculty, 10% for non-OPP clinical faculty, and 20% for OPP faculty.
Supervision
This position does not include supervisory responsibility.
Qualifications
- Physician applicants should hold a DO degree, preferably, or an MD or PhD.
- An active board certification from AOA or ABMS is required.
- A current U.S. medical license is required.
- Prior accomplishments of an exceptional scholarly, professional, or personal nature are preferred.
- Experience in academic medicine or health care delivery is preferred.
- Background in integrating biomedical sciences into a clinically focused curriculum is preferred.
- Familiarity with Problem-Based Learning, Case-Based Learning, or Team-Based Learning is preferred.
