Role overview
The University City of Gießen is hiring several permanent full-time waste collection workers for the municipal cleaning and fleet department. The position starts as soon as possible and is classified under pay group 3 of the public service collective agreement (TVöD).
Key duties
- Collect waste across the city, including emptying residual, organic, and paper bins, and picking up bulky waste, electronic scrap, and recyclable materials.
- Support street cleaning operations, winter service, and special assignments when needed.
- Carry out other operational tasks as part of the municipal service.
What we are looking for
- Full physical fitness for unrestricted operational work.
- Prior professional experience in a similar role is an advantage.
- Valid driving licence category B is required.
- Category C driving licence is desirable, ideally with key number 95 or a driver qualification certificate.
- A strong service mindset, willingness to work, reliability, accountability, and a courteous manner even in difficult situations.
- Ability to work well in a team and flexibility to operate in changing small groups.
- Good written and spoken German skills at B1 level.
- Ability to work in diverse teams and contribute to an inclusive work environment.
Working conditions
Applicants must be prepared to work on Saturdays as well as Sundays and public holidays. For winter service, on-call duty may be required, and work outside regular hours or beyond standard working time may be necessary for special occasions. Shift work is not planned at present, but the employer explicitly reserves the right to introduce it.
