About the Role
IOM, the United Nations migration agency established in 1951, works with governments and partner organizations to support safe, orderly and humane migration. In Chişinău, the Cleaner will help keep office premises clean, hygienic and safe so that staff and visitors can work in a well-maintained environment.
The position sits under the supervision of the Chief of Mission, the Resources Management Officer, the Supply Chain Officer in Chisinau, and the Senior Procurement/Logistics Associate. The role involves day-to-day cleaning and upkeep of office interiors and exterior areas in line with organizational standards and local health and safety rules.

Key Duties
The selected person will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness across the full office site, including workspaces, shared areas and outdoor surroundings.
Qualifications and Experience
A school diploma together with relevant experience in cleaning services is required. Previous exposure to international humanitarian organizations, NGOs, or government institutions in multicultural environments will be considered an advantage.
Language Requirement
Fluency in Romanian, both spoken and written, is required. IOM staff are also expected to be fluent in one of the organization’s official languages: English, French or Spanish.

Responsibilities
- Keep the office and surrounding premises tidy and in good order, including rooms, balconies, lavatories, corridors, stairs, yard areas, gardens, kitchen spaces, waste disposal points, walkways and nearby outdoor areas, as well as office equipment and appliances.
- Flag any repair or maintenance issues in restrooms, kitchens and similar areas to the Senior Procurement/Logistics Associate.
- Remove waste from the premises and place it in the proper collection containers.
- Make sure toilet paper, soap and hand towels are stocked and replaced whenever needed.
- Wash cups and dishes when required.
- Check water coolers and refill water drums as necessary.
- Carry out other related tasks assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- School diploma plus relevant hands-on experience in cleaning work.
- Experience with international humanitarian agencies, NGOs, or government bodies in multicultural settings is an asset.
- Strong ability to complete cleaning tasks efficiently while maintaining high hygiene standards.
- Working knowledge of cleaning techniques, materials and safe equipment use.
- Basic understanding of health, safety and hygiene practices, including safe handling of cleaning chemicals.
- Good time management and the ability to prioritize daily tasks.
- Careful attention to detail and the ability to work with limited supervision.
- Dependability, punctuality and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Physical ability to carry out manual work, including lifting, standing and repetitive activity.
- Ability to notice and report hygiene or maintenance problems quickly.
- Basic communication skills for interacting with staff and supervisors.
- Flexibility to handle changing workloads, including seasonal cleaning and outdoor maintenance.
