Role Overview
Southern Cross Construction Ltd. is looking for a seasoned payroll and bookkeeping professional to support its office operations in Bentley, Alberta. This is a full-time, in-office opportunity for someone who is careful with details, comfortable handling confidential financial data, and eager to contribute to a family-oriented startup environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Run payroll cycles accurately and within deadlines.
- Keep employee payroll files current and verify that records remain accurate.
- Work out and process deductions, benefits, vacation pay, and required statutory payments.
- Prepare payroll summaries and carry out reconciliation tasks.
- Make sure payroll activities comply with federal and provincial employment and payroll rules.
- Handle employee questions about payroll in a timely and professional manner.
- Support year-end payroll work, including preparation of T4s.
- Coordinate with accounting and administrative team members as needed.
- Process accounts receivable and accounts payable as transactions are received.
Qualifications
- At least 3 to 5 years of payroll-related experience is required.
- Hands-on experience with Sage 50 Payroll is mandatory.
- Good working knowledge of Canadian payroll regulations and employment standards is expected.
- Strong accuracy, organization, and attention to detail are important.
- Proficiency with computers, especially Microsoft Excel, is needed.
- You must be able to manage sensitive information discreetly.
- Payroll certification such as PCP is considered an advantage, but it is not essential.
