Junior Data Analyst

About the Role

Miller Kaplan is seeking a Junior Data Analyst to join its Data Analytics Department. In this position, you will support both client-facing engagements and internal teams by turning data into practical insights and solutions. The role is a strong fit for someone who enjoys meaningful project work, cross-functional collaboration, and growing technical depth in a fast-moving practice area. To succeed, you should be comfortable juggling priorities, producing accurate work under deadlines, and keeping communication clear with teammates.

Key Responsibilities

• Review datasets to spot trends, anomalies, and recurring patterns, then translate those findings into recommendations that improve efficiency, profitability, or other client goals.
• Collect and consolidate information from multiple sources such as department leaders, subject matter experts, reports, surveys, forecasts, and budget records while maintaining accuracy and completeness.
• Transform report-based information into structured databases.
• Build databases that are secure, efficient, and accurate.
• Clean, reshape, and standardize data so it remains consistent and reliable.
• Use validation checks and audits to protect data quality and integrity.
• Support SQL query creation for reporting and analysis needs.
• Create documentation for database workflows, definitions, and data dictionaries.
• Work with senior analysts and IT partners to improve database performance and resolve issues.
• Follow data security, privacy, and access-control requirements.
• Help maintain Python scripts that automate repeated data handling, reporting, and file-processing tasks.
• Contribute to ETL processes that clean, validate, reconcile, and convert raw data into dependable structured outputs.
• Use basic VBA in Excel to automate reports, calculations, and client deliverables.
• Record automation steps clearly so others can reuse and improve them later.
• Pull data from databases, organize it, and analyze it to produce useful reports.
• Develop and update interactive Power BI dashboards using effective visualization practices.
• Create automated reporting tools that lower manual effort and improve consistency.
• Share analysis results with managers and clients in a clear, decision-oriented format.
• Recommend practical approaches for issues identified through analysis.
• Keep up with current practices and new developments in data storage, data management, and analytics, and apply new knowledge quickly.
• Take part in planning, execution, and tracking of data-driven projects to help ensure timely delivery.
• Partner with team members, clients, and stakeholders on data initiatives and recommendations.
• Handle several priorities at once while maintaining accuracy in a fast-paced, deadline-focused setting.
• Complete additional related tasks and special projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, data science, statistics, mathematics, computer science, quantitative analysis, or a related discipline.
• Strong analytical judgment with careful attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good communication and presentation ability for audiences ranging from staff to stakeholders.
• Well-developed organization and time management skills, with the ability to work independently and proactively.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, Power Query, Power Pivot, DAX, and M code, along with general Microsoft Office proficiency.
• Working proficiency in Python or SQL.
• Hands-on experience with visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
• Understanding of database structure, design principles, and query languages.
• Familiarity with statistical techniques such as linear regression and logistic regression.
• Respect for documentation standards, controls, and audit trails.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to Python libraries such as pandas, tkinter, openpyxl/xlwings, numpy, PDFplumber, and scikit-learn.
• Experience with machine learning methods, including supervised and unsupervised models.
• Familiarity with OCR tools and methods.
• Working knowledge of VBA.
• Basic understanding of Azure fundamentals.
• Ability to use prompt engineering and AI tools efficiently.
• Some experience with Caseware IDEA or a similar audit and analytics platform.

Physical Requirements

• Extended periods of sitting and computer-based work are part of the job.
• You must be able to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
• Attendance at in-office meetings is required when needed.

Compensation and Benefits

The role offers a salary of $60,000 to $65,000 per year.
