Network Engineer

Role overview

Nera Telecommunications Ltd is seeking a Network Engineer to deliver network support and professional services for customer environments. The role combines remote and onsite troubleshooting, planned changes, project implementation, testing, documentation, and periodic maintenance across a range of networking technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Offer remote or onsite technical support in line with service-level commitments, including break-fix work.
• Respond to urgent incidents and provide emergency assistance when needed.
• Carry out software upgrades and related change activities.
• Take part in a 24/7 rotating on-call standby arrangement.
• Track trouble tickets through to closure, coordinating with internal teams and vendors as needed.
• Create implementation processes and SOPs, including Method of Procedures (MOP).
• Design test cases and run hardware and software regression testing before deployment or proof-of-concept execution.
• Perform configuration changes to improve network services and validate new features.
• Support project work through high-level and low-level design documents, design validation testing, implementation, commissioning, acceptance testing, migration, and system documentation.
• Execute scheduled preventive maintenance on customer networks.
• Prepare reports and documentation that summarize findings and recommended solutions.
• Stay current with new technologies and continue building technical knowledge through learning opportunities.

Requirements

• Tertiary qualification in Computer Networks, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and the capacity to work independently under pressure.
• Flexibility to work varied hours.
• Ability to learn unfamiliar technologies and products quickly using documentation and online resources.
• Professional certifications in routing, switching, security, wireless, or data center technologies are an advantage.
• Practical knowledge of IP network services and solution design for telcos, ISPs, mobile operators, and broadband providers.
• Hands-on experience with LAN/WAN technologies such as VLAN, STP/RSTP, OSPF, ISIS, BGP4, MPLS-TE, MPLS-VPN, CGNAT, segment routing, QoS, multicast, 802.1x, IPv6, OSI, and TCP/IP.
• Familiarity with network testing tools such as Spirent or Ixia.
• Additional exposure to packet optical networking, IPoDWDM, data center technologies, virtualization, cloud computing, SDN, NFV, Linux/Unix administration, shell scripting, Python, and automation tools like Ansible, Chef, or Puppet is beneficial.

Additional information

This position requires flexibility, rotational standby availability, and the ability to support both operational troubleshooting and project delivery activities. The work spans implementation, validation, maintenance, and customer-facing technical support.
