Flight Simulator Engineer

Overview

Ryanair is hiring a Flight Simulator Engineer to join its engineering team in Dublin. This opportunity is suited to someone looking to build experience and advance within one of Europe’s largest airlines. The simulators are heavily used, operating for more than 20 hours each day, supporting both initial and recurrent pilot training for over 8,000 pilots.

Role purpose

In this position, you will help keep the flight training devices and related equipment operating reliably so that the pilot training programme runs with minimal interruption. Your work will involve preventive and corrective maintenance, daily checks, and technical support across the simulator environment.

Key duties

• Carry out daily readiness inspections so the flight simulation training device is prepared for operation.
• Keep simulator equipment aligned with EASA FSTD-A Level D standards.
• Support the quality system in line with EASA requirements.
• Review and apply aircraft and vendor service bulletins.
• Install aircraft loadable software and confirm it functions correctly.
• Work with flight crew at a technical level to identify and resolve aircraft-related defects.
• Coordinate with technical inspectors during initial and recurrent qualification activities.
• Work with simulator vendors to address issues that require vendor support.
• Execute the planned Quality Test Guide test sequence and verify results.
• Develop and implement simulator modifications using hardware and software engineering methods to match Ryanair fleet requirements.
• Carry out technical defect clearances with assigned flight crew.
• Participate in subjective evaluation sessions for simulator performance with flight crew.
• Take part in subjective evaluation sessions for visual database performance with flight crew.
• Handle any additional tasks needed for the day-to-day running of the Flight Simulator Training Centre.

Candidate profile

The role may suit applicants with a mechatronic engineering degree or another closely related technical qualification, a recognised electrical or aircraft maintenance apprenticeship, or an EASA Part 66 A, B1, or B2 licence. You should be comfortable working in a high-pressure setting, able to meet strict deadlines, and capable of analysing issues quickly and turning them into workable fixes. A genuine interest in a career in simulator engineering is important.

Working requirements

This position involves shift work and travel to other simulator facilities in Europe. Strong planning skills and good working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are required. The company also expects a willingness to work shifts as part of the schedule.
