Role overview

Habitat is expanding its projects team and is looking for a data analyst to contribute to high-impact environmental projects. Working under the guidance of team leaders, the selected person will support project delivery and help advance the company’s broader mission.

Key responsibilities

The role centers on managing and analyzing geospatial and project data, supporting client work, improving internal tools and methods, and presenting findings clearly through maps, charts, tables, and documentation. The position also involves maintaining data quality, confidentiality, and reproducibility of analytical work.

Detailed responsibilities

• Gather, organize, and maintain geospatial information coming from clients, internal teams, and existing databases.
• Run project analyses using the current tools, scripts, and methods in use at the organization.
• Monitor the integrity of data and outputs, while ensuring proper storage, archiving, and confidentiality practices.
• Support project managers in delivering client assignments.
• Help determine the most appropriate analytical approach and assist in interpreting outcomes.
• Join project discussions and contribute to drafting report sections.
• Develop and adapt analytical tools, especially for land-use planning and multi-criteria prioritization work.
• Write, modify, and tailor scripts, libraries, and workflows when needed.
• Help strengthen Habitat’s tools and methodologies over time.
• Produce maps, tables, charts, and other visual materials to communicate results.
• Present findings in a clear, accessible way while preserving scientific accuracy.
• Document analyses and scripts so they can be reproduced and transferred easily.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in biology, ecology, forestry, or geography.
• Strong programming capability in R.
• Experience with geomatics analysis and database management.
• Ability to remain effective under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Strong interpersonal skills and comfort working in a dynamic team environment.
• Excellent written French and strong spoken communication in both French and English.
• Familiarity with ecosystem services modeling tools such as InVEST is an advantage.
• Capacity to approach unfamiliar problems creatively and develop workable solutions.
• Good critical-thinking ability.
• Basic knowledge of Python, Julia, SQL, and DuckDB.

Working conditions

This is a permanent, full-time position with a 35-hour workweek. There is an option to complete the 35 hours from Monday to Thursday starting June 24. Compensation follows the current pay scale for a 35-hour week. The preferred start date is summer 2026. The role follows a hybrid model with remote work plus access to the Mile-End office. Candidates must be authorized to work in Canada.
