Role overview
The company is looking for a Project Engineer to manage the development and execution of safety-critical avionics programs. In this role, you will bring together engineering teams from different disciplines to deliver technical outcomes that satisfy customer expectations while balancing schedule, cost, quality, and aerospace compliance requirements.
Location and work setup
This position is based in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada and follows an on-site working arrangement.
Key responsibilities
- Guide the integrated product development team working on safety-critical avionics systems so that technical, budget, and schedule targets are achieved.
- Create and maintain detailed technical plans, project estimates, and schedules.
- Work closely with Systems, Software, Hardware, and Mechanical Engineering teams during design, development, integration, and verification across the full product lifecycle.
- Run discussions with customers and internal technical teams to define scope and requirements.
- Own the solution-definition process from requirements gathering through design, development, validation, verification, and transition into production.
- Make sure project goals are clearly shared with the team and that all technical work stays aligned to the approved schedule.
- Monitor and communicate program progress, cost performance, risks, and milestones.
- Lead design reviews and technical coordination meetings with both internal stakeholders and external parties.
- Maintain compliance with aerospace engineering processes and standards.
- Support proposal and quotation work related to RFPs and RFIs.
- Be accountable for the engineering solution delivered.
Required qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field is required.
- At least 2 years of project management experience, including cost control, schedule management using MS Project, resource coordination, and risk management; PMP certification is considered an advantage.
- Practical exposure to engineering disciplines such as systems, software, hardware development, and certification for aerospace electronics products.
- Working familiarity with DO-178, DO-254, and DO-160 is an asset.
- Ability to take responsibility for deliverables and coordinate with the right stakeholders to meet deadlines.
- Strong capability to monitor delivery timelines closely and provide progress updates to program management.
- Experience handling engineering changes and non-conformances through established processes.
- Confidence in executive-level communication and the ability to explain complex matters clearly and accurately.
- Strong leadership and people-management skills.
- Effective customer and supplier relationship management abilities.
- Self-driven, proactive, and able to work with limited supervision.
