About the role
Duco is a growing technology business operating across Australia and New Zealand, with a focus on managed IT services and enterprise solutions. The company is built around innovation, quality delivery, and using technology to help clients succeed in local and global markets.
This position is for a Financial Controller who will own core finance operations, keep the books accurate, support cash flow oversight, and prepare timely reporting for leadership. It is a practical, hands-on role suited to someone who is detail-oriented, well organised, and confident working with Xero and Microsoft Excel.
Duco is seeking a commercially minded finance professional to support everyday financial activity in a flexible part-time arrangement. The role is based primarily in the office, with some work-from-home flexibility available.
Employment type: Part-time, 3–4 days per week
Work arrangement: Mainly office-based, with flexible remote work options
Salary: $90,000–$100,000 per annum, pro rata
Availability: Immediate start required
Key responsibilities
- Handle supplier invoices promptly and keep creditor records and payment schedules up to date.
- Make sure supplier payments are processed correctly and within agreed terms.
- Match supplier statements and resolve any invoice mismatches or disputes.
- Track approval workflows linked to company spending.
- Create and send client invoices accurately and on time.
- Manage billing for recurring services as well as project-based work.
- Monitor overdue debtor balances and follow up on outstanding payments.
- Respond to client questions about invoices and payment issues.
- Keep customer records accurate in Xero.
- Prepare weekly cash flow forecasts and management reporting.
- Monitor cash position and funding needs.
- Administer invoice financing facilities and related tasks.
- Support working capital planning and forecasting.
- Collect and validate timesheets for service delivery staff.
- Prepare payroll information for Duco’s external accountants.
- Ensure labour costs and billable hours are recorded correctly.
- Maintain employee leave and entitlement records with external payroll providers.
- Produce weekly and monthly reports covering cash flow, debtors, creditors, revenue, project profitability, and work in progress.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close activities.
- Support budgeting and forecasting work.
- Manage employee expense claims and reimbursements.
- Ensure all required supporting documents and approvals are retained.
- Maintain compliance with company finance policies and procedures.
- Work closely with the external accounting firm.
- Liaise with suppliers, clients, and finance partners as needed.
- Support management with analysis and decision-making.
- Assist with audits and financial reviews when required.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience in a Finance Controller, Finance Manager, Senior Bookkeeper, or similar position.
- Advanced working knowledge of Xero accounting software.
- Strong capability in Microsoft Excel.
- Proven background in managing accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Ability to prepare cash flow forecasts and management reports.
- Good understanding of payroll and timesheet administration.
- High accuracy and strong attention to detail.
- Well-developed organisational and time management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and take responsibility for finance processes.
- Experience in IT services, managed services, professional services, consulting, or technology environments is preferred.
- Knowledge of project-based billing and professional services accounting is preferred.
- Accounting, bookkeeping, or finance qualifications are preferred.
- Experience working with external accountants and auditors is preferred.
- Candidate should be highly organised, proactive, self-driven, commercially aware, trustworthy, discreet with confidential information, comfortable in a fast-moving environment, solution-oriented, and professional.
