Data Scientist

Role overview

This role blends expertise in financial markets and investment sales with strong data and technology capabilities. The position focuses on using advanced analytics, machine learning, deep learning, and AI techniques to work through large structured and unstructured datasets, surface meaningful insights, and build data-driven solutions that support smarter business decisions.

The role also includes creating new modelling processes, building predictive systems, and handling day-to-day data visualization and dashboard management. The successful candidate will partner closely with data engineers to establish analytics foundations and with investment distribution teams to deploy practical analytics solutions.

Responsibilities

• Apply machine learning techniques to design and evaluate new sales approaches for investment distribution teams.
• Collaborate with data engineers and business analysts to build data pipelines and analytics tables.
• Mine and transform useful information from multiple data sources to assess whether AI/ML solutions can improve organizational data processing and usage.
• Perform large-scale analysis to identify patterns and trends by combining different models and algorithms.
• Use analytical findings to guide business leaders in maintaining market competitiveness.
• Develop prediction systems and machine learning models, and explore additional tools and technologies for innovative business data solutions.
• Present complex ideas in a clear and simple way to varied audiences.
• Build strong working relationships across internal and external teams to help achieve business goals.
• Stay alert to market and business trends and adapt solutions when changes are needed.
• Take on additional related responsibilities as required.

Requirements

• At least 4 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent mix of education, certification, and experience.
• Strong hands-on ability in SQL.
• Working knowledge of Python, R, or SAS.
• Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI.
• Solid background in data analytics and machine learning.
• Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work across teams and functions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Comfortable handling ambiguity and making data-informed decisions.

Additional information

Pay rate: USD 53 to USD 55 per hour.

Work arrangement: Hybrid model with 4 days onsite in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Preferred background: Experience in the investment industry or financial sales is a strong advantage, and previous banking experience is desirable.

Preferred education/certifications: CFA or an advanced degree in a relevant field is preferred.
