About the company
Legal & General is a major UK financial services group and a global investor with a long history dating back to 1836. The organisation works to support people’s financial security, create value for shareholders, and contribute positively to society. Its activities span asset management, pension risk transfer, life insurance in the UK and US, and workplace pensions and retirement income in the UK.
The Group Functions team provides the specialist services that support the wider business, and this role sits within that environment, helping the organisation deliver its work effectively.
Role overview
This position is for a Data Analyst to support the GDFP IFRS 17 reporting platform. The focus is on building, maintaining, and improving Tableau dashboards and data models in a tightly controlled reporting setup.
The role will also support the transition of Tableau workbooks and data sources as Snowflake platforms are redesigned and moved to a new server. That includes making carefully controlled updates to semantic models so they continue to reflect changes in the underlying systems. A major part of the work will be testing, reconciliation, and documented assurance to confirm that reports remain aligned with governed data and reporting expectations.
You will work within established SDLC and change-management processes, produce the required documentation and artefacts, and help strengthen Tableau development practices through version control, CI/CD, and Python-based tooling.
Key responsibilities
- Build, enhance, and support Tableau dashboards, data sources, and extracts for the GDFP IFRS 17 platform, ensuring the outputs are accurate, efficient, and compliant with reporting standards.
- Carry out migration work for Tableau as Snowflake data sources are re-engineered and moved to a new server, including connection updates and controlled model changes.
- Help improve Tableau delivery methods by supporting stronger SDLC controls, version management through Git/GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment automation using Python-based Tableau tools.
- Plan and perform detailed testing and reconciliation to verify Tableau output against source data, and produce auditable evidence such as test scripts, reconciliation outputs, and Test Completion Reports.
- Work with data engineering, QA, governance, and business teams to clarify requirements, investigate issues, and deliver changes through approved timelines and processes.
- Provide day-to-day support for dashboards and data sources, including monitoring, issue diagnosis, performance tuning, and prompt resolution of defects or incidents.
- Use SQL and Tableau best practices to create and maintain reliable datasets and data models, including joins, aggregations, and calculations, so reporting is consistent and scalable.
- Operate in a controlled and audited setting by following governance and security rules, keeping documentation current, and ensuring all changes are traceable, reviewed, and released through approved procedures.
Requirements
- A degree in a technical or numerate subject, a Level 4 apprenticeship in a relevant area, or equivalent professional experience, with an emphasis on data analysis and visualisation.
- Experience working with large datasets, with strong accuracy, thorough testing, reconciliation skills, and clear evidence of results.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain high-quality Tableau dashboards, including workbooks, data sources, calculations, extracts, performance tuning, and effective visual design.
- Experience creating and maintaining reporting datasets and data models such as star schemas or semantic layers using SQL, with the ability to adjust models as Snowflake sources change.
- Ability to improve and automate analytics and reporting processes through repeatable deployments, standardised testing, and reusable components that reduce manual work and operational risk.
- Strong technical capability in SQL, ideally Snowflake, and advanced Tableau; familiarity with Python, Git/GitHub, CI/CD concepts, or data-preparation tools such as Alteryx would be an advantage.
- Comfort working across multiple datasets and environments within a governed delivery model, and collaborating effectively with engineering and business stakeholders.
- A structured, engineering-oriented approach, with the ability to work independently while contributing to standards, peer review, testing, documentation, and continuous improvement.
Benefits
- Eligibility to participate in the annual performance-based bonus plan and share schemes.
- Generous employer pension contribution.
- Life assurance cover.
- Healthcare plan available for permanent employees only.
- At least 25 days of holiday plus public holidays, increasing to 26 days after 2 years of service, with the option to buy or sell holiday.
- Competitive family leave arrangements.
- Access to an electric car scheme for permanent employees through tax-efficient salary sacrifice.
- Employee discounts on company products and a range of high-street and online retailers.
- Modern office spaces designed to support collaboration and contribute to net-zero carbon workplaces by 2030.
