Role overview
Trimble’s Mapping and GIS team is looking for an entry-level Applications Engineer Intern to contribute to the future of field data capture and asset management. The position supports the TerraFlex mobile application and the connected cloud systems that help deliver accurate, dependable positioning tools for surveying and utility mapping professionals.
Why this internship stands out
This is a hands-on placement that gives exposure to the full product lifecycle, from collecting data in the field to testing cloud-connected workflows. You will work with real-world scenarios, use professional GNSS equipment and office tools such as ESRI ArcGISPro, and share feedback that helps engineers and product managers improve the product.
Responsibilities
- Carry out field-based data collection and receiver checks to confirm the accuracy of mapping hardware and software.
- Test compatibility across Android and iOS devices to support a smooth user experience.
- Run full end-to-end testing by creating mock customer projects and reviewing outputs in office tools such as MapViewer and TerraOffice.
- Log software defects or enhancement ideas and retest fixes during the development process.
- Join weekly testing team meetings to present findings and flag major issues for the wider development group.
Requirements
- You should currently be studying toward a tertiary qualification in Surveying, Geography, Geoscience, or a related engineering discipline.
- Strong attention to detail, along with good communication and problem-solving ability, is important.
- You need to be comfortable taking responsibility for your work and contributing within a collaborative team environment.
- The role requires a willingness to work outdoors when field testing or validation is needed.
- A genuine technical interest and an appreciation for user-focused design will be valuable.
Preferred experience
- Exposure to GIS tools such as ESRI ArcGISPro.
- Familiarity with cloud software environments or mobile app testing.
- Prior experience with GPS or GNSS hardware.
Benefits
- Paid 12-week internship.
- Buddy or mentor support throughout the placement.
- A visit to a test site to see the construction technology in action.
- A two-week break over the Christmas and New Year period.
- Opportunity to work alongside a professional team.
- Social activities and events with other interns.
- Trimble-branded merchandise.
- Complimentary membership to the Trimble Social Club.
- Access to a cohort of more than 20 interns.
