Software Asset Management

Role Overview

This role is focused on managing the complete lifecycle of software assets across request, procurement, deployment, usage, and retirement. The position is based in Hyderabad, Pune, or Coimbatore.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the full lifecycle of software assets from acquisition through retirement.
• Maintain precise software asset data in the CMDB/CMS, including records for installations, upgrades, patches, removals, and decommissioned items.
• Run and support the software compliance program to keep the organization ready for audits.
• Reconcile licenses by comparing entitlements against actual consumption.
• Improve license utilization through harvesting, reallocation, and SaaS optimization.
• Track renewals, expiries, and true-up events for all software licenses.
• Ensure software configuration items are captured accurately, including attributes, versions, and relationships.
• Support CMDB updates, audits, and remediation activities related to software changes and patch releases.
• Administer SAM platforms such as Flexera, ServiceNow SAM Pro, and Snow.
• Enable automated discovery, normalization, and reconciliation of software assets through SAM tools.
• Integrate SAM platforms with CMDB and ITSM systems.
• Lead internal and external software audits for vendors such as Microsoft, Oracle, and SAP.
• Align all SAM practices with ITIL Service Asset & Configuration Management processes.
• Prepare audit evidence and drive remediation actions where gaps are found.
• Produce reports on license compliance, usage patterns, and opportunities to reduce software spend.
• Share insights with stakeholders on software-related costs and risks.
• Collaborate with procurement, finance, legal, and software vendors on contracts, entitlements, and maintenance agreements.
• Investigate and resolve differences between purchased software and software that is actually installed.
• Use AI/ML-enabled tools to improve software discovery, classification, optimization insights, compliance risk prediction, and drift detection/remediation workflows.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in Software Asset Management or IT Asset Management.
• Hands-on experience with SAM tools, with Flexera preferred.
• Strong knowledge of software licensing structures, including OEM, subscription, SaaS, and enterprise agreements.
• Solid understanding of ITIL SACM and CMDB processes.
• Experience managing software audits involving vendors such as Microsoft, Oracle, SAP, and IBM.
• Strong analytical ability and experience with data reconciliation.
• Experience integrating ServiceNow or similar platforms with CMDB environments.
• Exposure to SIAM-based working environments is preferred.
• Familiarity with AI-driven asset discovery tools is an added advantage.
• Knowledge of cloud and SaaS license management, including O365, AWS, and Azure, is preferred.
• ITIL v4 and CSAM certifications are preferred.
