Company Overview
MD Group is a specialist in social housing and public sector building services, working with local authorities and social landlords to construct, repair, maintain, and improve homes, properties, and public buildings. The business is focused on quality workmanship and strong customer care, while helping clients operate within tight budgets and meet responsibilities to the communities they serve. With a local operating model, the company hires and invests in the regions where it works, aiming to create lasting value and support broader social aims. Backed by more than 20 years of experience, MD Group has established a solid reputation for dependable processes, strong training, and ongoing investment, and is now one of the major building and maintenance service providers across the South and South West.
Role Summary
This full-time Multitrade position is based from the Poole office and covers work across Hampshire and Dorset. The role involves carrying out a wide mix of maintenance and repair work in social housing properties, including carpentry, basic plumbing, plastering, painting, and general property repairs. The successful person will handle both planned and reactive tasks, identify issues, complete work to the required standard, and make sure all health and safety rules are followed on site.
Key Duties
- Respond to scheduled and reactive maintenance jobs across social housing homes and related properties.
- Inspect problems, work out the cause of defects, and carry out repairs in line with agreed job specifications.
- Perform a range of trade tasks such as carpentry, basic plumbing, plastering, painting, and general repairs.
- Maintain safe working practices and comply with health and safety standards while working in occupied homes and void properties.
- Communicate clearly with tenants, clients, and colleagues, giving progress updates as work is completed.
- Keep accurate records of materials used, work finished, and other job-related details.
- Work efficiently while maintaining MD Group’s quality expectations and contributing positively to the communities served.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate should bring practical multitrade experience across core building disciplines and be capable of delivering neat, reliable repairs and maintenance. A sound understanding of building maintenance methods, health and safety requirements, and the safe use of tools and equipment is important. Strong communication and customer service skills are needed to deal respectfully with tenants, clients, and coworkers, along with good organisation and time management to juggle multiple jobs, complete paperwork accurately, and work independently or as part of a team.
Additional Requirements
Relevant trade training or qualifications are expected, such as an NVQ or City & Guilds in a building trade. A valid driving licence suitable for travelling between sites is also required. Familiarity with basic digital systems for job management, reporting, and communication is useful. Prior experience in social housing or public sector maintenance would be an advantage.
Work Environment
The position is office-based in Poole with travel across Hampshire and Dorset. The work will involve both occupied homes and void properties, so professionalism, safety awareness, and respect for residents are essential.
