Role overview
As an Intermediate Full Stack Engineer, you’ll help design and improve IDEXX’s next-generation veterinary software platforms from the Auckland R&D hub. The work sits in a modern cloud-first environment and focuses on building scalable products that make it easier for veterinary practices to operate and help deliver better outcomes for animals and their owners.
The Veterinary Software division is building the first vertical SaaS platform for Animal Health. As the business grows, the team is expanding across Clinical, Practice Management, and Client Engagement domain tribes to speed up delivery, bring the platforms together, and create more value for customers around the world. You will join one of the new squads and help shape the direction of the platform.
Key responsibilities
- Build dependable, maintainable software using modern tools and cloud-native approaches such as TypeScript, Go, and related technologies.
- Design and ship new functionality from the ground up while also improving existing features across the product suite.
- Track down defects, investigate technical issues, and fix problems efficiently and accurately.
- Identify performance bottlenecks and make improvements that increase reliability and responsiveness.
- Support the ongoing maintenance and refinement of current frameworks and code foundations.
- Develop practical, scalable solutions for complex veterinary workflows.
- Work closely with your squad to deliver strong outcomes and move shared goals forward.
- Participate in code reviews and help raise overall code quality and consistency.
- Partner with cross-functional teammates to understand broader product needs and solve challenges at scale.
- Contribute to DevOps activities, including CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and system reliability efforts.
What success in this role looks like
Your work will support IDEXX’s mission to improve animal health through technology. By delivering scalable and high-quality software, you’ll help veterinary clinics work more efficiently, improve clinical results, and strengthen the connection between veterinarians and pet owners. The outcomes you build will affect both customer operations and patient care.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Prior experience building web or mobile applications.
- Experience writing unit tests and maintaining code quality.
- Solid understanding of object-oriented design, modular design, and common design patterns.
- Experience creating and integrating APIs.
- Familiarity with current web technologies such as React and backend technologies such as Go, TypeScript, or similar object-oriented languages.
- Exposure to cloud environments, particularly AWS.
- Experience working in Agile delivery models such as Scrum, Kanban, or similar.
Nice-to-have experience
- Background in a scaled SaaS environment.
- Exposure to event-driven architecture, containers, and distributed systems.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and automation.
