About Primer
Primer provides a single payments infrastructure platform for businesses operating globally. It helps finance and payments teams gain clearer oversight, stronger control, and better performance while reducing operational complexity and unlocking additional revenue.
Supported by investors including Sofina, Peak XV Partners, ICONIQ, Tencent, Accel, and Balderton, the company is developing the payments foundation used by leading businesses.
Primer’s brand must make a technically complex category feel polished, confident, and approachable, while avoiding the generic visual style often seen in fintech. As Brand Designer, you will shape how the company is presented across its brand and marketing touchpoints.
Role overview
You will own the visual expression of Primer across brand and marketing channels. Working within the Design team and closely with Marketing, you will translate strategy, launches, and campaigns into work that is effective as well as visually strong. The team is intentionally small, highly capable, remote-first, and spread across multiple regions.
This is a senior, hands-on craft role reporting to the Head of Design. You will collaborate closely with the teams responsible for campaigns, product marketing, and events.
Key responsibilities
- Shape Primer’s brand presence across the website, campaigns, product marketing, social channels, events, and sales materials.
- Develop and grow the visual identity and brand system so it can scale with the business without becoming generic or template-driven.
- Own major creative outputs such as launches, flagship campaigns, and events from the initial idea through final delivery.
- Work with Marketing to convert strategy into creative that resonates with the intended audience, not just work that appears visually appealing.
- Maintain a high creative standard across all brand output, with originality and taste as core expectations.
- Contribute across typography, layout, motion, and illustration, with a need for breadth rather than a narrow specialty.
- Ensure the brand and product design feel consistent wherever they overlap so the company presents as one unified experience.
What we are looking for
- A portfolio showing strong brand and visual design work across digital and campaign contexts, with clear range and strong aesthetic judgement.
- The confidence to lead brand work independently from concept through delivery, with minimal supervision.
- Deep capability in typography, layout, and visual systems, with the ability to set a quality benchmark rather than simply follow one.
- Experience creating or evolving a brand system, not only working within an existing one.
- Evidence of brand work in a technical or B2B environment, showing that you can make a complicated category feel compelling.
Nice to have
- Skills in motion, illustration, or web design.
- Background working with fintech, payments, or developer-focused brands.
Working style and expectations
- The product space is technical and not naturally glamorous, so making payments infrastructure feel exciting is a central part of the job.
- You will be expected to work with a high degree of autonomy and limited day-to-day direction.
- The remit is broad, and you will move across formats and disciplines rather than staying within one narrow lane.
- The team works remotely and asynchronously, so self-management is essential.
Interview process
- Introductory conversation with a Talent Partner.
- Interview with the Hiring Manager.
- A role-specific challenge stage.
- Final interview focused on values alignment.
Culture
Primer aims to create an environment where people can do high-quality work and feel proud of the impact they make. The team is mission-driven, thoughtful, and committed to building strong products that help merchants succeed.
The company has operated remotely since its inception and invests in connection through effective remote-working practices, workations, an annual company retreat, and coworking access in many major cities.
The work is demanding because scaleups and category-defining products are demanding, but the expectation is that challenges come with support. New joiners receive structured onboarding, collaboration from the wider team, and real investment in their success.
Benefits
- Fully remote, globally distributed team.
- Competitive share options.
- Uncapped holiday, with a minimum of 25 days to take.
- Access to coworking spaces in major cities.
- Workations and company retreat.
- Top-quality equipment for the role.
- £500 toward home office setup.
- Generous learning budget.
- Private medical insurance.
- Additional benefits depending on location.
Equal opportunity statement
Primer welcomes applicants from all backgrounds and encourages people to apply even if they do not meet every listed qualification. The company follows a zero-tolerance approach to discrimination and is committed to fair treatment regardless of age, disability, sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race or ethnicity, religion or belief, gender identity, marriage and civil partnership, or any other protected characteristic.
