Job description

Role overview

Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering organization is building the next generation of data and analytics platforms, spanning databases, integration, big data, messaging, real-time analytics, and business intelligence. The broader portfolio includes Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI, with the goal of shaping a modern data platform for AI-era applications.

Within Azure Data, the messaging and real-time analytics group focuses on enabling high-volume, low-latency signal ingestion and processing for observability and other complex data scenarios. The team works on distributed messaging systems where throughput, milliseconds-level latency, and 99.99% availability are all critical. Their services support internal Microsoft products and external customers across highly demanding use cases such as financial transactions, streaming, and gaming.

This role is for a creative and committed front-end engineer who will help design and build customer-facing web experiences. The work centers on prototyping and delivering a new UX platform that helps customers interact with large-scale streaming data, while solving important user pain points and strengthening the overall UX layer.

The team values a diverse, inclusive, and collaborative environment where different viewpoints are actively welcomed and used to improve outcomes for customers.

What you will do

  • Create refined, high-quality UI components and end-to-end user experiences.
  • Develop UX prototypes quickly, both independently and in partnership with designers.
  • Continuously improve existing designs by incorporating feedback from users and stakeholders.
  • Use data and insights to identify meaningful enhancements that improve user satisfaction.
  • Explore and build wireframe concepts for new features and products.
  • Contribute to the team culture and values in day-to-day work.

Experience and qualifications

Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical discipline, along with at least 2 years of technical engineering experience using one or more coding languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python. Equivalent practical experience is also acceptable.

A minimum of 1 year of professional experience working with Fabric, Databricks, Snowflake, or data platforms in Azure, GCP, or AWS is also required.

Additional requirements

This position requires the ability to satisfy Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements. A Microsoft Cloud Background Check must be completed on hire or transfer and then repeated every two years after that.

Preferred background

Preferred candidates may have a master’s degree in computer science or a related technical field with at least 3 years of relevant engineering experience, or a bachelor’s degree in the same field with at least 5 years of relevant engineering experience, or equivalent experience.

Strong front-end capability is important, including modern JavaScript frameworks such as TypeScript, React, or Next.js, along with SCSS/CSS. Experience working with RESTful APIs and/or GraphQL is valuable, as is the ability to translate specifications and wireframes into high-fidelity code.

Additional strengths include a record of delivering ambitious projects, familiarity with design workflows such as sprints, critiques, and iterative reviews, comfort using tools like Figma and Adobe Creative Cloud, and a solid ability to design and architect solutions at scale. The role also suits someone who can thrive in ambiguous product areas and communicate clearly through writing, speaking, and visual presentations.

Application window

The opening remains available for at least 5 days and will continue to accept applications until the position is filled.

Equal opportunity

Microsoft is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified candidates are considered without regard to age, ancestry, citizenship, color, family or medical leave status, gender identity or expression, genetic information, immigration status, marital status, medical condition, national origin, physical or mental disability, political affiliation, protected veteran or military status, race, ethnicity, religion, sex, including pregnancy, sexual orientation, or any other protected characteristic under applicable local laws and regulations. Reasonable accommodation support is available for religious needs or disability-related needs during the application process.
