Job Summary
The Unit Aide supports the Renal Dialysis team and reports to the Program Manager, or a delegate. In this role, you will help with patient care in a clean, antiseptic setting during the Hemodialysis process, including helping position patients, gathering equipment and supplies, and supporting the movement of patients or machines to and from critical care areas before and after care.
This position requires the ability to work from detailed instructions and to learn the assembly and disassembly of Hemodialysis equipment. Additional duties may be assigned as needed. The Unit Aide is also responsible for following hospital Occupational Health and Safety standards and helping maintain a safe workplace.
Qualifications
You should be able to manage the physical demands involved in patient care and handling Hemodialysis equipment. Availability to work at satellite locations is required. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are important for working effectively with patients, staff, and visitors. You must also be able to adjust to changing conditions, including emergency situations, and respond flexibly to the needs of the patient and care team as directed by the Program Manager or delegate. A willingness to support process improvements and a commitment to the organization’s values are also expected.
Prior experience in patient care and Safe Patient Handling is preferred. Knowledge of correct body mechanics for lifting, transporting, and assisting with patient ambulation is required.
Education and Training
A minimum of Grade 12 Diploma or GED Certificate is required.
