The position is based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and focuses on electrical design for logistics automation projects.

Role overview

As an Electrical Design Engineer working with ePLAN, you will translate project requirements and mechanical layouts into electrical designs, calculations, drawings, and documentation. The role covers design development from concept through detailed design and final release, along with coordination across engineering, procurement, installation, and commissioning teams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop single-line diagrams and perform 400V/24V power calculations based on mechanical layouts and drive lists, ensuring voltage drop, short-circuit current, and selectivity requirements are properly met.
• Assess tender requirements and verify the specifications for distribution panels, sub main distribution boards, and field distribution boards so the design matches customer expectations.
• Carry out power distribution sizing for baggage handling system elements such as motor loads, lighting, UPS, and other auxiliary loads, making sure panels like MDP, LDP, SMDB, and FDB meet project needs.
• Create detailed electrical layouts and wiring diagrams in ePLAN using standard templates and conforming to industry practices and international standards such as EN, BS, DEWA, and SASO.
• Prepare BOQ/BOM documents and SAP material data, support ordering and submittals, and stay involved from concept design through detailed and final design approvals before issuing drawings for manufacturing and site installation.
• Review engineering drawings and produce project documentation such as material submittals, functional design specifications, detailed design specifications, operation and maintenance manuals, and training documents for electrical, controls, and overall project requirements.
• Raise purchase requisitions in SAP and order electrical materials while accounting for existing site stock and approved material submittals.
• Coordinate closely with proposals, mechanical, PLC commissioning, software, installation, planning, procurement, and logistics teams to ensure the solution is workable and delivered according to schedule.
• Ensure all relevant design quality procedures are followed throughout the project lifecycle to support successful delivery and customer satisfaction.
• Maintain compliance with occupational health, safety, security, environment, and quality requirements as defined in the project HSSE Plan and Quality Plan.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering is required.
• At least 5 years of professional experience in electrical design and installation within logistics automation, specifically baggage handling or cargo handling systems.
• Practical experience with ePLAN P8, AutoCAD, REVIT, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint.
• Working knowledge of trunking and cable layout design, including clear installation practices.
• Strong understanding of electrical design and communication protocols such as Profinet and Profibus, plus familiarity with tools like SIMARIS and CANECO; experience with SIEMENS products is a plus.
• Good interpersonal abilities and confidence working with internal and external stakeholders, ideally in multicultural environments.
• PLC knowledge would be an added advantage.
