Role overview

Scotiabank is hiring a Full Stack Developer to join its Global Wealth Management Technology (GWMT) group in Toronto, Ontario. The position focuses on building, improving, and supporting scalable software across the front end, back end, infrastructure, and data layers. You will collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to deliver dependable solutions for the Global Wealth ecosystem.

What you will do

• Take ownership of the design and architecture for sophisticated distributed full-stack systems.
• Use modern tools and engineering practices to strengthen supportability, lower operating expense, and improve security, uptime, and reliability.
• Help establish engineering standards and shared best practices across teams.
• Coach and support both senior and junior engineers through technical mentorship.
• Contribute to the evolution of existing platforms by introducing technologies and tools that better meet business needs.
• Promote a customer-first, high-performance mindset while helping maintain an inclusive workplace culture.
• Communicate effectively with both business and technology leaders, and build agreement around ideas and approaches.

Required experience and technical background

The role calls for at least 6 years of experience building enterprise-grade applications that are cloud-native, message-driven, test-driven, reactive, and containerized. Prior exposure to banking or financial services is preferred. Hands-on knowledge of Microsoft Azure, Kubernetes, Java 8, Spring Boot, JUnit, Maven, Gradle, NoSQL databases, Docker, Velocity, and CI/CD pipelines is expected. You should also be comfortable with version control systems such as Git, SVN, and Bitbucket, and have a solid understanding of Agile ways of working.

Additional technical knowledge

Familiarity with application security tooling such as BlackDuck, Fortify, and SonarQube is required. Strong working knowledge of Java ecosystems and libraries, including Spring Boot, Spring Security, JDBC, JUnit, Apache Camel, and Azure SDK, is also important.

Nice to have: AI and machine learning

Experience adding AI or machine learning features to production software is an advantage. It is also helpful to have practical exposure to AI APIs and platforms such as OpenAI and Anthropic, along with experience building or using LLM-based capabilities like chat, search, summarization, and recommendations.
