Resident Mechanical Engineer

Position Summary

HanmiGlobal Saudi Arabia is looking for a seasoned Resident Mechanical Engineer to support its Project Management Consultancy (PMC) team on a major residential development in Riyadh. In this role, you will oversee mechanical engineering works throughout construction and make sure all systems are installed, tested, commissioned, and finally handed over in line with the contract, applicable regulations, quality expectations, and the project timeline.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct and monitor all mechanical site activities, covering HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, LPG systems where applicable, and related mechanical services.
• Examine contractor submissions such as shop drawings, material proposals, method statements, inspection requests, and technical documents.
• Verify that all mechanical work follows approved drawings, project specifications, relevant codes, and client standards.
• Work closely with architectural, structural, electrical, and infrastructure teams to resolve coordination and interface challenges.
• Track construction progress and confirm alignment with the approved programme.
• Oversee mechanical inspections and witness testing, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and performance checks of systems.
• Review and sign off inspection records, test results, commissioning files, and as-built documentation.
• Spot site issues and suggest workable engineering remedies.
• Assess contractor performance and recommend corrective measures when needed.
• Take part in technical discussions, progress reviews, and coordination sessions.
• Assist with commercial reviews involving variations, claims, and technical evaluations when required.
• Ensure strict adherence to Quality, HSE, and project governance requirements.
• Prepare technical reports and provide regular progress updates to project management.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university.
• Active registration with the Saudi Council of Engineers.
• Membership in a recognized international engineering body is considered a plus.
• At least 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering.
• At least 5 years in a Resident Mechanical Engineer or comparable supervisory position on large construction projects.
• Background with Project Management Consultants (PMC) is strongly preferred.
• Experience in residential, mixed-use, hospitality, healthcare, or other large building projects is desirable.
• Strong working knowledge of Saudi Building Code, NFPA, ASHRAE, SMACNA, IPC, and related international standards.
• Solid understanding of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and building services systems.
• Experience evaluating shop drawings, material approvals, RFIs, and commissioning records.
• Comfort with BIM coordination and multidisciplinary design review processes.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Good command of Microsoft Office and engineering management tools.
• Understanding of project planning and construction sequencing.
• Saudi Council of Engineers registration is mandatory.
• PMP is an added advantage.
• ASHRAE membership or an equivalent professional credential is preferred.
• Strong leadership, coordination, communication, problem-solving, analytical, planning, and organizational abilities.
• Commitment to quality, client service, safety, and professional ethics.

Additional Information

This role sits within a PMC environment and supports a major residential development project. The successful candidate will be expected to work on-site in Riyadh and coordinate closely with multiple disciplines and stakeholders throughout construction and handover.
