Role overview
In this role, you will help keep warehouse operations running smoothly by preparing customer orders, handling incoming products, and making sure items are stored, tracked, and shipped correctly. Accuracy, speed, and attention to detail are essential to deliver a high level of customer satisfaction.
Key duties
- Prepare, pack, and dispatch customer orders accurately
- Receive vendor shipments and customer returns, then count, check, and store products properly
- Unload and load trucks and operate forklifts or other material-handling equipment
- Review packing slips and receiving paperwork, recording shortages, damage, or other differences
- Enter received goods into the computer system and validate receiving documents
- Separate special-order items and damaged goods and place them in the correct location
- Document freight issues on the carrier’s bill of lading, start claims when needed, and pass paperwork to the right teammate
- Pick items for customer orders by matching quantities against shipping paperwork
- Pack goods appropriately for pickup or delivery, including third-party carrier shipments and dangerous goods paperwork when required
- Report inventory variances and defective or damaged stock that could affect service levels
- Keep the warehouse clean and safe by removing cartons, banding, pallets, and other waste
- Escalate warehouse safety concerns to the supervisor or profit centre manager
- Help customers at the counter when needed
- Carry out other tasks assigned by the Profit Centre Manager
Qualifications
- Grade 12 or an equivalent level of education; college or university studies are considered an advantage
- At least 1 year of warehouse experience
- Strong customer service ability and clear verbal communication
- Capability to build broad product knowledge
- Willingness and ability to learn safe operation of a forklift and other handling equipment
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when processing orders
- Comfort learning and using the software system for order processing
- Intermediate-level math skills
Preferred background
- Exposure to or knowledge of plumbing and building products sold at the profit centre
- Experience with Trend, Eclipse, Word, Excel, and Outlook
Additional information
Compensation for this position is listed at 50,000 to 60,000.
