About the company

Alliance Group Ltd supplies premium grass-fed lamb, beef, and venison both within New Zealand and to international markets. The business is focused on supporting farming families and maintaining strong environmental and production standards across the full food journey.

Role overview

Alliance Group Ltd is hiring a Data Engineer for its Christchurch team on a full-time, onsite basis. This role is central to designing, developing, and supporting the data platforms that underpin day-to-day operations and strategic decisions. You will contribute to technical initiatives that help the business manage, analyse, and apply data more effectively while improving operational performance.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and support scalable data pipelines and well-structured datasets for collection, transformation, and storage.
  • Maintain strong standards for data accuracy, consistency, and availability throughout the full data lifecycle.
  • Bring together structured and unstructured information into dependable data warehouses or data lakes that are easy to use and trustworthy.
  • Work with business teams to understand their information needs and turn them into practical technical solutions.
  • Deliver data products that enable self-service analytics and help phase out older data platforms.
  • Apply governance standards and collaborate with the technology team to keep tools and APIs aligned, reusable, and well integrated.
  • Track data platforms and reduce risk through effective monitoring, alerts, and control mechanisms.
  • Keep up with new data technologies and approaches to strengthen the organisation’s data capability over time.
  • Make sure all updates follow approved processes, including documentation, testing, and budget checks before release.

About you

The ideal candidate will bring around 2 or more years of experience in a related technical role such as data engineering, development, or software engineering. You should be comfortable working in agile delivery environments and have hands-on exposure to CI/CD, Azure DevOps, and Kanban. A working knowledge of Snowflake is highly valued.

You will also need a solid grasp of data modelling, especially dimensional modelling, along with the ability to troubleshoot complex data issues and work independently when needed. Strong communication skills are important, particularly the ability to explain technical ideas clearly to non-technical colleagues.

Experience with data governance, data security practices, machine learning pipelines, and integrating ML models into data workflows will be an advantage. Familiarity with Power BI or similar reporting tools is also desirable.

Benefits

  • Paid health insurance for you and your family.
  • An additional week of annual leave.
  • Supportive and collaborative workplace culture.
  • Professional development opportunities.
  • The chance to contribute to meaningful work with visible business impact.

Application information

Applicants should submit a CV, a cover letter describing relevant experience, and any portfolio or project samples that showcase data engineering work.
