Application Engineer, Full Stack

Role overview

In this role, you will own a broad set of web application activities end to end, including gathering requirements, developing software, testing, writing documentation, training users, rolling out solutions, and providing ongoing support and maintenance for both internal and external-facing applications. You will collaborate with a cross-functional group using UI designs, functional specifications, and prototypes as the starting point, and you’ll be expected to act with ownership, take initiative, and introduce improvements that better serve users and customers.

As an Application Engineer, you will build, enhance, and validate applications that address the needs of internal users. The work spans multiple project types and business workflows, and it will require you to learn new technologies while contributing across projects and teams throughout the organization.

Google’s Corp Eng organization develops business solutions that help scale the company’s internal operations. The team provides end-to-end platforms, tools, and experiences that enable Googlers to build and deliver products and services more effectively.

Minimum qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent level of practical experience.
• Hands-on experience designing and integrating internal and third-party applications.
• Background in shaping engineering and architecture strategy.
• Programming experience in Java, Python, or C++.
• Experience working with cloud platforms.

Preferred qualifications

• A master’s degree in Computer Science or another related technical discipline.
• Experience in financial planning and analysis, or in a similar finance engineering domain.
• Experience with web-scale databases and data pipelines that can collect and process millions of events each day.
• Experience connecting custom-built solutions with vendor products, especially for finance-related business workflows.
• Experience in cloud development, particularly with Google Cloud and related technologies.
• Experience with Anaplan and SAP.

Responsibilities

• Build, implement, and test software products and internal applications that support finance planning and analysis processes.
• Work with stakeholders to solve difficult technical and business problems.
• Collaborate with internal business teams to define system and delivery roadmaps, then deliver work with consistent quality and reliability.
• Define technical direction and priorities for a small set of nearby engineers.
