Role overview
This position supports teachers in delivering Design and Technology (D&T) coursework and hands-on lessons so that workshop-based classes run efficiently and safely. The role also involves assisting with students’ learning activities and operational work in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
Key responsibilities
- Prepare learning materials, set up workshops and special-purpose rooms, guide students during projects and coursework, supervise the use of tools, machinery and equipment, and resolve related issues to keep practical lessons running smoothly and safely.
- Maintain workshop and special-room safety by following current safety rules and procedures, taking care of tools, equipment and machines, and ensuring proper storage and accountability of items.
- Support STEM learning by partnering with teachers to plan and organise student learning experiences or learning journeys, and by helping students with STEM investigative work and STEM Applied Learning Programme (ALP) projects.
- Oversee inventory and materials in workshops and special rooms through regular stock checks, replacement of used-up or damaged items and equipment, and coordination with external partners on asset management and routine inspections.
- Contribute to budget planning by supplying relevant information and assisting with finance-related operations.
Requirements
- Experience in handling, maintaining and troubleshooting machines, equipment and tools, together with working knowledge of workshop safety expectations.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work well on your own as well as collaboratively in a team.
- Careful attention to detail, with strong planning and organisational skills.
- Comfort using Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, and ease in working with systems and digital tools.
