Role Overview
The Duty Engineer will oversee day-to-day engineering operations, coordinate maintenance activities, and support the upkeep of hotel systems and equipment. This role requires hands-on technical expertise, strong coordination skills, and the ability to respond quickly to urgent repair needs while maintaining safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Join the daily morning briefing with senior engineering leaders to align on priorities and shift plans.
- Organize, allocate, oversee, and verify maintenance, repair, and construction work while ensuring quality and adherence to preventive maintenance timelines.
- Handle work orders by assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and maintaining accurate records of maintenance activity and equipment service history.
- Diagnose equipment issues, troubleshoot technical faults, and support maintenance technicians with practical, hands-on assistance.
- Address maintenance calls, breakdowns, emergencies, and urgent repair requirements across electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and major equipment systems.
- Prepare clear daily, weekly, and monthly reports covering completed work, pending items, maintenance trends, and operational performance.
- Maintain compliance with safety rules, legal requirements, and occupational health and safety practices, and support engineering teams during emergency situations.
- Coordinate manpower planning and scheduling to use resources effectively and meet operational needs.
- Escalate significant operational concerns to the Assistant Chief Engineer or Director of Engineering promptly and clearly.
Required Qualifications
Candidates should have at least 1 year of experience as a Duty Engineer or in a comparable maintenance engineering role within hospitality. A trade license, certification, or diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, or General Civil engineering is required. The role also calls for strong communication skills, familiarity with work order and maintenance planning systems, a solid grasp of safety and compliance practices, good organization and time management, analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and readiness to work shifts and remain on call when needed.
Preferred Experience
Additional value will be given to candidates with advanced certification or specialization in Electrical, Mechanical, or General Civil trades, along with experience in facilities management at a five-star hotel, resort, or similar premium property. Experience with CMMS platforms, preventive and predictive maintenance methods, team supervision, cross-functional coordination, emergency response, and crisis handling will also be advantageous.
Work Expectations
The position is based onsite in Greater Vijayawada District and may require flexible scheduling, shift work, and on-call availability depending on operational requirements.
