About the Role
This position sits within the Permissions Management and Ecotourism (PME) Branch of the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service and Partnerships Division (QPWS&P), under the Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science, and Innovation (DETSI). It offers an opportunity to lead a capable team delivering an ongoing portfolio of systems and business improvements that strengthen how permissions are managed across the QPWS&P estate and throughout Queensland for tourism-related permissions.
The role also oversees the delivery of specific projects, including digital permitting solutions, and helps shape the related policies, procedures and governance arrangements needed to provide high-quality service to customers, stakeholders and partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the team in line with the Leadership competencies for Queensland, demonstrating the behaviours expected of a Team Leader.
- Plan and drive a program of work focused on improving permissions management processes and outcomes.
- Coordinate delivery of projects such as digital permitting systems, along with the supporting policy, procedure and governance framework.
- Use strong analysis and interpretation skills to identify issues, solve problems and support continuous improvement.
- Apply solid project management capability to achieve results and meet departmental goals.
- Communicate effectively in writing and verbally, including through strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Manage team performance and foster ethical conduct, professional growth and development.
- Contribute to a workplace culture that supports safety, equity, diversity, respect and inclusion.

Requirements
- Ability to model Team Leader behaviours aligned to the Leadership competencies for Queensland.
- Proven experience developing and delivering a program of work that improves permissions management.
- Substantial background in program management within public land management or a related field, plus strong knowledge of protected area management, permissions management, policy development and the relevant Queensland legislative framework.
- Strong analytical and interpretive capability, with a track record of effective problem solving and workplace improvement.
- High-level project management skills and a clear focus on achieving outcomes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to influence, negotiate and build relationships.
- Experience leading a team and establishing systems that support performance management, ethical behaviour and professional development.
- A demonstrated commitment to workplace safety, equity, diversity, respect and inclusion.
