Job description
Position Overview
The Renfrew County District School Board is seeking a Custodian for Arnprior District High School, located in Arnprior, Ontario. This full-time onsite role involves working 8-hour shifts, 40 hours per week from 2:30 pm to 11:00 pm, with potential schedule adjustments during school breaks.
Key Duties
- Perform routine cleaning tasks including rooms, washrooms, and fixtures.
- Mop, wash, scrub, and finish floors, including stripping, resealing, and refinishing.
- Collect and dispose of garbage and recycling efficiently.
- Vacuum and shampoo carpets; clean windows, blackboards, ledges, railings, and furniture.
- Operate custodial cleaning equipment and troubleshoot minor equipment issues.
- Assist with heavy lifting tasks such as unloading supplies and materials.
- Conduct routine maintenance such as repairing lockers, doors, furniture, replacing fuses and light bulbs, resetting circuit breakers, and unclogging drains.
- Perform grounds maintenance including snow removal and grass cutting using manual or mechanized equipment.
- Ensure all work aligns with Occupational Health and Safety Act and Board policies to maintain safety for building occupants.
- Prioritize tasks to meet deadlines, work independently or within a team, and maintain professional relationships with supervisors, colleagues, students, contractors, and user groups.
- Communicate effectively, follow both oral and written instructions, and uphold high ethical standards.
Qualifications and Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent (Grade 12) with a minimum of one year of experience in custodial work.
- Dependability and willingness to accept responsibility.
- Ability to operate and maintain custodial equipment.
- Knowledgeable in WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
- Basic skills in email communication and proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Excel and Word are advantageous.
- Strong judgment, trustworthiness, and ethical conduct in all job responsibilities.
Additional Information
This vacancy is for an existing position and is subject to terms outlined in the CUPE 1247 Collective Agreement and RCDSB Administrative Procedures. Bargaining unit members receive priority consideration. Employment offers are contingent upon receipt of a current vulnerable sector screening and acceptable educational qualifications.
