Role overview

Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting an experienced Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) to join NHS Talking Therapies in the Preston area. This position suits a qualified PWP who is ready for a new challenge in a busy service focused on delivering practical, effective support for common mental health difficulties.

The service is built around collaborative, high-energy teamwork. You will work alongside motivated and skilled therapists who are committed to helping people and supporting one another. The role offers the chance to bring creativity, flexibility and a strong sense of commitment to a service that values meaningful therapeutic contact.

Service approach

NHS Talking Therapies PWPs provide screening, assessment and treatment for common mental health problems. The team aims to offer a range of support options rather than relying on a single format.

Sessions may take place in groups, by telephone, through online video appointments using Attend Anywhere, or in person. The working model is hybrid, combining days working from home with clinic-based work in a variety of community settings, including office locations.

PWPs also play an important community-facing role by building links with local GP practices and supporting health promotion across the wider area.

Working pattern

The post requires flexibility to meet service needs. Working times may include early mornings, late evenings, and some Saturday mornings.

The trust also supports flexible working arrangements and may consider working patterns such as term-time schedules, part-time hours, compressed hours and flexi-time.

Development and specialisms

Team members are encouraged to build specialist interests through champion roles. Examples include long-term conditions, young people, safeguarding, BAME, older adults and substance misuse.

Equality, inclusion and wellbeing

The trust states a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion, and welcomes applicants from all backgrounds. It actively challenges discrimination and encourages applications from under-represented groups. Candidates with lived experience relevant to the role or service area are also welcomed.

Staff wellbeing is described as a key priority, with a range of resources, tools and support available to help employees maintain health and wellbeing inside and outside work.

Contact information

For informal enquiries, contact Emily Steiner, Team Lead, or Isabelle Currie, Senior PWP, at NHS Talking Therapies Preston on 01772 773437.

Eligibility and shortlisting criteria

Only applicants holding a recognised PG Cert in Primary Care Mental Health Practice (IAPT) or a BSc (Hons) in Counselling, Coaching and Psychological Interventions (PWP) will be shortlisted for interview.

Additional notes

This opportunity is based in Preston, England, United Kingdom. The role is part-time and onsite, with a hybrid working pattern that includes both home and clinic-based work.
