Job description

Overview

Step into a community leadership role with Canada Post as a Postmaster. Reporting to the Superintendent or Local Area Manager, you will serve as the community face of the Post Office by promoting and selling postal products and services to both residents and local businesses. You will supervise staff, manage multiple priorities, and ensure a vibrant customer focus aligning with Canada Post's standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage proactively with the local community regarding Canada Post’s offerings and services.
  • Promote and sell postal products and services to the public and commercial clients.
  • Provide suitable, centrally located premises within the community within 30 days if selected.
  • Administer the post office to maintain designated retail hours and meet delivery expectations.
  • Manage postal revenues, assets, and related financial values effectively.
  • Maintain accurate records and produce necessary reports.
  • Support efficient management of mail delivery routes.
  • Possibly sort mail for postal boxes as needed.
  • Supervise post office staff where applicable.
  • Ensure the post office remains tidy, presentable, and clean according to Canada Post standards.
  • Operate the office with diligence and efficiency.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High School diploma or provincial equivalent; experience in business administration is valued.
  • Existing ownership or lease of premises that are suitable, central, and accessible, available at least one month before hire.
  • Experience dealing with the public in retail or service settings, including sales and cash handling.
  • Familiarity with regulations, procedures, and methods related to mail processing and postal service delivery.
  • Physical ability to handle mail containers up to 50 lb, move postal boxes, and stand for long periods during sorting.

Premises Obligations

  • Premises must be fully accessible for people with disabilities and must be approved at least one month prior to hiring.
  • Postmasters bear responsibility for rent/lease payments, utilities (heating, lighting), cleaning, maintenance, snow removal, municipal taxes, and property/liability insurance.
  • Appointments adhere to the terms outlined in the Canada Post Act.
  • Public service hours are determined by Canada Post and may vary as required.

Additional Information

  • One vacancy is available for this position.
  • Weekly working hours total 18.
  • A leasing allowance of $2283 annually will be provided to assist with post office operating costs.
  • An annual supplemental allowance might be payable to help cover premises expenses.
  • Priority for transfers and applications is given to Canada Post Association members and eligible employees within the competition area, in line with the collective agreement.
