Role overview

Tata Consultancy Services is seeking an experienced Mainframe Developer for its Vizag location. The role is focused on core mainframe engineering, application modernization, and delivery leadership. Experience

Applicants should have 5 to 10 years of overall experience. The technical profile also calls for at least 8 years of hands-on work with core mainframe technologies.

Mandatory technical and functional expertise

• Deep practical experience with Cobol, Easytrieve, JCL, CICS, and VSAM files.
• Working knowledge of DFSORT, SYNCSORT, ICETOOL, and related utility tools.
• Experience using BMC Control-M for scheduling.
• Familiarity with communication mechanisms such as SFTP and Connect:Direct.
• Hands-on exposure to File-Aid, Abend-Aid, and Expeditor.
• Background in delivering mainframe development work, including ownership of at least one sizeable development effort.
• Ability to gather requirements, test mainframe jobs, prepare test plans, and coordinate with business teams during UAT.
• Project implementation experience.
• Capability to write REXX, Easytrieve, and SORT-based scripts for analysis and testing.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.
• Clear communication skills for working with infrastructure, QA, and business stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Study legacy systems to understand current architecture, including integration touchpoints and dependencies.
• Review components, identify remediation needs, and estimate effort for modernization work.
• Design, build, and modernize customer applications and systems so they are optimized for cloud environments.
• Work with the client to complete high-level and low-level design for the remediation scope.
• Understand the existing application behavior and recommend suitable remediation solutions.
• Coordinate with business and other teams for UAT and integration activities.
• Roll out changes in planned phases and oversee execution.
• Guide the team and drive delivery of the project.

Desirable skills

• Experience modernizing legacy mainframe applications into cloud-native solutions.
• Knowledge of Google Cloud Platform is an advantage.
• Understanding of the retail domain.
• Exposure to Informatica, UNIX, SQL, and database concepts is preferred.
• Familiarity with Micro Focus Emulator.
