Stellenbeschreibung

About the company

GroundTruth is an advertising platform that transforms real-world consumer behavior into marketing outcomes that can be measured in the physical world, including store visits and sales. The company uses observed behavior such as location and purchase signals to build targeted campaigns across screens, measure audience response, and generate insights that improve future marketing performance. GroundTruth has also been recognized among Ad Age's Best Places to Work in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2025.

Role overview

GroundTruth is hiring a Data Engineering Manager to lead the team responsible for the core data infrastructure behind its audience platform. This role combines people leadership with hands-on engineering, requiring someone who can design scalable data systems, guide engineers, and contribute directly to production data pipelines.

Key responsibilities

  • Own the architecture and rollout of large-scale distributed data processing workflows built with PySpark on Amazon EMR and serverless AWS Glue ETL.
  • Mentor and develop data engineers, with emphasis on Python, Spark performance tuning, data modeling, and career growth.
  • Work closely with stakeholders and engineering leaders to scope, plan, and deliver data-focused initiatives across advertising, analytics, and reporting products.
  • Contribute directly with production-quality Python and PySpark code, participate in code reviews, and tune Spark settings to improve efficiency and control infrastructure costs.
  • Use Agile practices such as Scrum to support iterative delivery, team alignment, and consistent release of dependable data solutions.
  • Run regular one-on-ones, provide feedback, conduct quarterly reviews, recognize achievements, and manage team performance.

Required background

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Data Science, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 8 years of experience in technology, specifically in data engineering, data warehousing, or big data architecture.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience leading a data engineering team.
  • Strong Python and PySpark expertise, including distributed processing, handling skewed data, and Spark memory optimization.
  • Deep experience with AWS, especially Amazon EMR for heavy processing workloads.
  • Ability to build extraction, transformation, and loading systems using SQL and AWS big data tools such as S3, EMR, Glue, Athena, and Lambda.
  • Advanced SQL knowledge for complex data transformations, query tuning, and analytics work.
  • Hands-on experience with orchestration tools such as Airflow and with Git-based development workflows.
  • Experience using AI throughout the data engineering lifecycle to modernize workflows, automate data quality checks, and improve delivery.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude, or GitHub Copilot.

Preferred strengths

  • Ability to troubleshoot complex PySpark or Scala jobs and optimize EMR instance fleets and spot instance usage for cost and performance balance.
  • Exposure to event-driven architectures and AWS SQS for reliable scalable event processing is an advantage.
  • AWS certification is preferred.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, data-heavy environment with strong organization and collaboration skills.
  • Attention to detail, especially when identifying data quality issues and setting up automated fixes.
  • Clear communication skills for translating business needs into practical technical trade-offs.
  • Strong problem-solving ability for diagnosing pipeline bottlenecks and coordinating across teams to resolve them durably.

Benefits and perks

  • Parental leave for both maternity and paternity.
  • Flexible leave structure including earned leave, sick leave, birthday leave, bereavement leave, and company holidays.
  • Daily catered breakfast, lunch, snacks, and beverages at the office.
  • Hospitalization coverage for the employee and family, including parents.
  • Telemedicine access, plus discounts on checkups and medicines.
  • Gym and wellness reimbursement.
  • Pet expense reimbursement.
  • Childcare support and reimbursements.
  • Employee referral program.
  • Education reimbursement.
  • Skill development support.
  • Mobile subsidy and reimbursement for phone and internet expenses.
  • Provident Fund benefits with tax-saving options and employer contribution up to 12% of basic pay.
  • Creche reimbursement.
  • Co-working space reimbursement.
  • Employer match under the National Pension System.
  • Meal card for tax benefits.
  • Special perks on salary account services.

Eligibility

Any graduate may apply, though the role clearly favors candidates with a technical degree or equivalent hands-on experience in data engineering and team leadership.
