Role overview
This opening is for a Databricks Consultant / Engineer based in New Zealand. The role requires a current Databricks certification and hands-on client-facing experience with Databricks and Delta Live Tables (DLT). There are three opportunities available across different organisations: two onsite positions and one hybrid position.
What you will do
You will be responsible for shaping, building, and supporting governed data platforms with a strong emphasis on Databricks and Fabric. The focus is on creating scalable, secure pipelines and delivering dependable data products.
- Improve the overall Databricks platform setup to support secure and scalable data solutions.
- Build governance structures, cataloguing approaches, and metadata management practices.
- Work with Databricks services such as Delta Live Tables and Lakeflow integrations.
- Apply data modelling techniques for analytical and operational use cases, including star and snowflake designs.
- Develop and manage Infrastructure as Code solutions for Databricks environments.
- Partner with stakeholders to turn business needs into governed data products.
- Promote source control discipline using tools such as Git or Azure DevOps.
- Design, maintain, and improve CI/CD pipelines and environment management for data engineering work.
- Create and run automated tests and data validation checks for pipelines.
- Drive performance testing and tuning for data engineering solutions.
- Write, review, and maintain unit and integration tests to protect solution quality.
- Record issues and fixes clearly for review and future reference.
- Oversee testing activities to confirm data accuracy, reliability, and performance.
- Support knowledge sharing and help refine internal frameworks and templates.
Requirements
Applicants should have a bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or similar experience. Strong practical capability with Python, SQL, and Terraform or another IaC tool is expected. Databricks expertise is essential, including Delta Lake and Unity Catalog. Experience with automation, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code practices is required, along with familiarity with cloud platforms, preferably AWS. A solid understanding of modelling both structured and unstructured data is important. Fabric experience is considered an advantage. A strong, proactive attitude is also expected.
Nice to have
Experience with high-throughput data processing pipelines and data visualisation tools would be beneficial.
Additional information
This role is specifically for candidates with a valid Databricks certification. Client-facing Databricks and DLT experience is described as absolutely essential. The opportunity covers multiple organisations, with both onsite and hybrid work arrangements available.
The original posting does not state salary, benefits, number of openings, start date, or application deadline.
Data governance and engineering focus
The position combines platform engineering, governance, DevOps, testing, and data quality responsibilities, with delivery standards expected to be strong across documentation, testing, and automation.
