Role Summary
The Data Analyst reports to the Director, Analytics & Insights and is responsible for helping teams make faster, simpler, and better decisions using data and analytical methods. The role focuses on producing accurate, timely insights for operations and strategic work, supporting go-to-market decisions through performance analysis, and improving operational effectiveness. The analyst also partners with the analytics team to create and maintain tools and workflows that move and transform data across multiple platforms, while using automation and data science principles to strengthen decision-making.
In addition, this role involves working with stakeholders to understand business needs, converting those needs into technical specifications, delivering development work, testing solutions, handling ad hoc requests, carrying out standard data procedures, and keeping stakeholder expectations aligned. The position also includes building and improving reports and dashboards for business intelligence and identifying continuous improvement opportunities that strengthen customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with stakeholders to understand business goals and measure the performance of their initiatives.
- Collect requirements and prepare formal documentation.
- Draft statements of work that align stakeholders on methods, timelines, responsibilities, and deliverable formats.
- Create, improve, and maintain Tableau reports and dashboards.
- Design repeatable analysis approaches that produce reliable, statistically meaningful insights.
- Respond to ad hoc reporting and analysis needs.
- Share progress and updates through written communication.
- Develop data processes using Python and Pandas to clean, transform, and analyze information from multiple data sources.
- Investigate issues through root cause analysis and recommend solutions that can scale.
- Build, maintain, and improve ETL pipelines.
- Move databases from local environments into cloud data warehouses such as AWS and Azure Databricks.
- Refactor, deploy, and productionize ETL and machine learning models in virtual or cloud environments.
- Combine large datasets from multiple sources to support prescriptive and predictive analytics.
- Identify data quality problems and carry out quality assurance checks.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Computer Science, Analytics, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Applied Math/Statistics, or a closely related field.
- Master’s degree such as an MBA, MSc, or MMA is considered an advantage.
- 1 to 3 years of experience in analytics.
- Hands-on knowledge of statistics and both quantitative and qualitative research methods.
- Strong ability to explain findings and communicate conclusions clearly.
- Experience working with large datasets from multiple sources using efficient database tools and methods.
- Ability to understand departmental needs and build strong collaborative relationships with technical and non-technical partners.
- Advanced proficiency in Python, SQL, and similar tools.
- Familiarity with machine learning libraries such as scikit-learn and TensorFlow.
- Experience with big data and data processing tools such as Apache Spark, Pandas, and Polars.
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure, and development tools such as Git and Bash is an asset.
- Advanced working knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases, including MySQL, and the ability to write and manage complex queries.
- Working knowledge of Tableau.
- Strong attention to detail, self-direction, and efficient time management.
- Ability to adapt quickly in a changing environment.
- Comfort working under pressure and within tight deadlines.
Additional Details
This position follows a hybrid schedule of three remote days and two in-office days per week, subject to business needs. The role is based in Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Quebec, Canada.
