CJ Architects is a comprehensive architecture practice focused on mixed-use, multifamily, commercial, and historic projects. The office is based in historic downtown Portsmouth, New Hampshire, close to the waterfront, restaurants, shops, and cultural venues.

Role Overview

This opening is for an entry-level designer with 0 to 4 years of architectural design experience. The position reports to the Principal and Project Architect and offers hands-on exposure to construction documents, client presentation materials, and other design-related work.

What You Will Do

You will support the design team across different phases of project development and help prepare materials used for documentation and presentations. The role is intended to build practical experience for someone pursuing a career in architecture.

Qualifications

The firm is looking for a candidate with a B.S. Arch, B.Arch, or M.Arch degree, along with a motivated, creative, and professional approach. Strong communication skills, the ability to collaborate well with others, and comfort working independently are important. Experience with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, and SketchUp is preferred, and knowledge of other 3D software is considered an added advantage.

Work Environment and Growth

The studio is intentionally small, with a team size limited to eight people to maintain a close-knit environment and deliver strong client and staff experiences. The firm supports the growth of its designers through mentoring, continuing education, software enrichment classes, green design training, licensure support, and assistance toward NCARB and LEED certification.

Schedule and Balance

This is a full-time position with a 40-hour work week. The firm also offers a family-friendly scheduling option and is open to working with the selected candidate to create a better fit between professional and personal responsibilities.
