About SafetyCulture
SafetyCulture is a global technology company focused on building practical tools that improve how work gets done for the people who keep industries moving, including factory operators, baggage handlers, truck drivers, servers, and retail staff. The company combines the scale and pace of a large tech business with a flatter, faster decision-making culture, where teams are encouraged to experiment, move quickly, and solve real problems without heavy approval chains. Full-time employees receive equity, and the organisation is now prioritising smarter scaling, operational maturity, and a strong emphasis on AI.
Role purpose
This position is designed to help create a new wave of industry-specific applications built on the SafetyCulture platform. You will join a small, agile team with a high level of ownership, focused on crafting tailored experiences for defined customer segments rather than simply extending a generic product journey.
What you will do
- Develop complete product capabilities across frontend, backend, and mobile layers, with the strongest focus on frontend work and React Native.
- Make practical decisions about when to reuse existing platform services and when to build independently.
- Work through dependencies with platform teams and determine when to help shared infrastructure evolve versus shipping immediate team needs.
- Collaborate closely with a principal engineer and cross-functional partners to clarify requirements, challenge technical ideas, and move quickly through iterations.
- Help shape AI-enabled product features as the product grows, contributing reusable capabilities for the wider engineering organisation.
- Explain technical constraints and trade-offs clearly so expectations remain realistic.
- Participate in code reviews and help strengthen engineering quality through direct collaboration with peers.
What we are looking for
- Strong frontend engineering skills with solid React experience; React Native experience is a major advantage.
- Working knowledge of backend development in TypeScript or Go; Go is considered a bonus and can be learned with support.
- Background in product-led, fast-paced environments, ideally within a SaaS startup or scale-up.
- Experience launching new applications while integrating with established systems, rather than only working in greenfield settings.
- Regular use of agentic coding tools as part of everyday development work.
- Product awareness and the ability to share ownership of direction with a product manager while making sensible scope decisions.
- Comfort with unclear requirements and the ability to move toward a solution without waiting for perfect instructions.
- Confidence to challenge assumptions constructively, state trade-offs clearly, and have direct conversations across the team.
- Speed and decisiveness in shipping work and adjusting course rather than over-engineering early.
- A collaborative mindset that still takes initiative, questions existing approaches, and improves outcomes with peers.
- Self-motivation and the ability to identify priorities and act without close supervision.
- Experience using AI coding tools such as Claude or similar as a core workflow habit.
- Ability to prompt effectively, review AI-generated output for correctness and quality, and apply human judgement where needed.
- Interest in building AI-native product features and understanding how AI is changing product strategy.
Success in this role
- By 3 months, you will have delivered meaningful features, made sound integration decisions, and built a strong relationship with your principal engineer and team.
- You will make technical decisions independently and bring options and trade-offs when escalating issues.
- You will keep delivery moving by unblocking yourself quickly and raising real blockers early.
- By 6 months, your features will be in customers’ hands, working well, and you will have influenced not only what the team ships but also how it works.
Compensation and benefits
- Equity with strong growth potential and a competitive salary.
- Flexible working arrangements.
- Access to professional and personal training and development opportunities.
- Hackathons, workshops, and lunch-and-learns.
- Daily breakfast, lunch, and snacks provided by an in-house culinary team.
- Barista coffee machine, craft beer on tap, boutique wines, and non-alcoholic beverage options.
- Wellbeing support including subsidised fitness programs, EAP services, and a generous parental leave policy.
- Quarterly celebrations and team events.
- On-site gym, table tennis, board games, a book library, and pet-friendly offices.
Inclusive hiring and additional information
SafetyCulture is committed to inclusive hiring and a strong sense of belonging, so team members can show up authentically at work. Reasonable adjustments are available throughout the recruitment process to help create an equitable experience for all candidates.
The company also encourages people to apply even if they do not meet every listed requirement, and values potential as much as experience.
For recruitment agencies: resumes and partnership requests are not accepted, and unsolicited candidate submissions will not be eligible for any associated fees.
Artificial intelligence tools may be used in parts of the hiring process, including application review, resume analysis, response assessment, and detection of possible inconsistencies or verification signals in application materials. These tools support the recruitment team but do not replace human judgment, and final hiring decisions are made by people.
The company has been recognised as a Best Place to Work in Australia, the US, and the UK.
