Role Overview
This position calls for a Mechanical Discipline Engineer to take ownership of mechanical engineering scope on a major building construction project in Doha, Qatar. The role centers on steering design review, installation, testing, commissioning, and final handover across core building services.
Scope of Work
The engineer will coordinate the mechanical package for HVAC, chilled water, plumbing, drainage, fire protection, and related building systems, ensuring the work progresses smoothly from technical review through completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and coordinate all mechanical engineering activities covering HVAC, chilled water, plumbing, drainage, fire protection, and other building services.
- Evaluate technical submissions and review engineering design documents.
- Handle material approval workflows and confirm technical compliance.
- Monitor testing, commissioning, and project handover stages.
- Liaise efficiently with engineering, construction, and other project disciplines.
- Make sure all mechanical works comply with project requirements, quality expectations, and applicable regulations.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering field.
- 10 to 15 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience in the construction sector.
- Hands-on background delivering large building projects such as residential, accommodation, mixed-use, institutional, or similar developments.
- Strong technical understanding of HVAC, chilled water, plumbing, drainage, and fire protection systems.
- Experience in design reviews, material submittals and approvals, testing, commissioning, and handover.
- Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary engineering and construction teams.
- Prior Qatar experience is strongly preferred; GCC experience may also be accepted.
- MMUP/UPDA certification is preferred for candidates already in Qatar and required where applicable.
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and spoken.
- Strong leadership, coordination, and stakeholder management ability.
- Familiarity with QatarEnergy, major clients, consultants, and local authority requirements is an added advantage.
