Role Overview

The Cello Teacher will conduct one-on-one and small group cello instruction for students across diverse age groups and skill levels. The position is based on-site in Auckland and involves preparing lesson plans, teaching proper techniques and posture, guiding foundational and advanced pieces, and integrating music theory into practical lessons. Responsibilities include evaluating students' progress with feedback, preparing them for performances or examinations, maintaining detailed teaching records, and cooperating with fellow educators to ensure cohesive teaching methods. Participation in recitals and events to support an encouraging and inclusive environment is also expected.

Qualifications

  • Advanced proficiency in playing the cello and music performance, with the capability to clearly demonstrate techniques.
  • Knowledge and experience in music education as well as involvement with music theory, effectively blending theory with practice.
  • Background in piano education is advantageous to enhance overall musical comprehension and supplementary instruction.
  • Prior experience teaching or tutoring a range of learners, ideally within formal or studio settings.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, complemented by a patient, student-focused, and inclusive teaching style.
  • Skill in crafting structured lesson plans, setting achievable goals, and monitoring student development.
  • Possession of relevant music qualifications or certifications, such as conservatory training, music degrees, or performance diplomas, is highly preferred.
  • Availability for full-time, on-site work in Auckland, including participation in extra-curricular activities like recitals and examinations.
