Backend Developer

Job purpose

This role sits within Betalab in the Partnership and Digital department. The position is responsible for understanding solution needs, shaping technical designs, building backend systems, and providing support for Betalab products. The work covers database structure, workflow design, user and data interfaces, integrations, and ongoing technical assistance.

Key responsibilities

• Build, enhance, and support APIs for internal and external products using Spring Boot and Go.
• Develop backend services for enterprise-level applications.
• Improve API speed and efficiency through caching, batching, and better query handling.
• Work closely with frontend teams so APIs align with business goals and user experience needs.
• Apply security controls such as authentication, authorization, rate limiting, and input validation.
• Produce clear, maintainable, and well-documented code in line with industry standards.
• Take part in code reviews, technical conversations, and architecture design sessions.
• Track, troubleshoot, and refine backend service stability and performance.

Knowledge, experience, and qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related discipline is required.
• Hands-on background as a backend developer using Spring Boot and C#/.NET in live production settings.
• Working knowledge of Node.js, TypeScript, or comparable backend technologies.
• Experience with message queues such as Azure Service Bus or Kafka for asynchronous processing.
• Strong understanding of databases including PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, or similar systems.
• Practical exposure to API protection, including OAuth, JWT, and authorization approaches.
• Familiarity with backend frameworks such as Apollo Server, Express.js, and NestJS.
• Experience using Git, CI/CD workflows, Docker, Kubernetes, or cloud environments like AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Strong analytical ability and the capacity to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams.
